Prerna Shah, Ph.D.
I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Georgia - Center for Advanced Computer-Human Ecosystems (CACHE) Lab. I hold a Ph.D. from SUNY-Buffalo and a MS from the National University of Singapore.
Hailing from the Himalayas, I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of environmental degradation, and felt a deep urge to do something about it. While years of studying and working in the environment and sustainability domain led to several valuable lessons learned, it was the realization that communication is what transforms awareness into action that truly shifted my path. It drew me into academia—a life-changing turn that allowed me to translate my personal values into meaningful professional impact. Over time, I’ve come to see how deeply intertwined health and the environmental risks are, thus guiding my present and future work.
Academics aside, I am an avid sustainability activist and have organized and participated in several capacity building and community engagement initiatives. I am also a professional mountaineer, having scaled a height of 19000ft in the Himalayas. In my free time, I read, paint, cook, or dream about having my own dog shelter!
