This is a basic social science research methods course. The goal is to provide a critical framework for evaluating social science research and experience conducting advertising and PR research. Students will learn how to select an appropriate research technique, conduct and supervise research, analyze and interpret data, and write research reports.
This course is designed to provide an overview of the major theories and empirical approaches to the study of intergroup attitudes. While doing so, a considerable amount of time is spent in understanding, dissecting, and extending the methodologies employed in the study of intergroup attitudes. Each week begins with a theoretical discussion, continues with methodological lectures, and ends with replication/extension of existing studies.
This course introduces communication research on risks related to health, science, technology, and the environment. It provides a conceptual understanding of the fundamental issues that influence the relationship between risk communicators and the public. The course encourages students to think critically about risk communication as a dynamic process. After taking this course, students should be familiar with the major theories related to risk communication and have an appreciation for how these theories relate to the practice of risk communication.
